Waterdown News - December 2009

Hi everyone - Hope you're having a great season so far - just wanted to send you some up to date information...

Devo meet - The devo meet was a great success!  Lesley and Paula reported that swimmers are right on track and had some great results.  For official result information, please go to www.swimming.ca and click on the 'events' tab, followed by 'meet list and results', find the meet in the list (Huronia Development Meet East #1) and click on 'meet report'.  Meet results are not always available right away, keep checking back.  Many thanks to the parents who helped time - the meets can't run without you, we really appreciate your help.  Thanks also to our Officials Chairperson Mark Cossarin, for taking over this important part of our club.

Tag day - We had a great tag day despite our lower numbers this year.  We raised $1590.27 and had a $50 donation from Pontel Drilling.  As well, we will be cashing the tag day cheques for members who did not participate.  Thanks to everyone who helped out!!

Upcoming meets- Unfortunately for silver and gold swimmers, the Clarington meet scheduled for December 6 was cancelled.  We now look forward to the Jessie Coward Invitational in Huntsville on January 16 and 17th. This is an overnight meet, with a pizza party and snow tubing on Saturday night.  It is alot of fun, and this year the meet will be held in the Bracebridge pool instead of Huntsville, due to renovations.  Team members can choose hotel accomodation in Bracebridge or Huntsville, I will attach information to this newsletter.  The Deerhurst is where we traditionally stay - they have great sports lodges which sleep 6, have a kitchen and fireplace, with lots of recreational facilities as well.  Last year the price was ~$145 a night.  Book your accommodation directly with the hotel, and ask whether or not they have a group rate for the Jessie Coward Winterlude meet.

Mini meet- We will be holding our in club mini meet on Wednesday, December 16.  Bronze, silver and gold swimmers are invited to attend.  This will take place during regular practise time.  As this is a sanctioned time trial, we require timing help (18 timers).  For new timers, this will be an opportunity to get signed off for your level 1 official requirement.  Please sign up on the list which will be posted on the bulletin board, or contact Mark Cossarin(mark.cossarin@tldsb.on.ca) or myself (musichouse@sympatico.ca)  This will be followed by our Christmas festivities - we will have pizza at the pool after the meet, then head to Bowlaway lanes for 6:30.  Details will follow on the bulletin board and via email.

Executive meeting - Our next meeting will take place on Monday, December 7 at 7 p.m. at Lee Silverthorn's house.  Everyone is welcome, please let us know if you would like to attend.  Penny Barton Dyke of the United Way will be speaking to us about board development.

Shirts and suits - shirts have arrived and are being distributed this week.  Suits are arriving early next week and will be given out at practise.

Registration for Red Fish Blue Fish session 2 has now begun.  If you know anyone who would enjoy this program, please ask them to call Colin at 786-9393 or myself at 878-0722.

Please check your email on a regular basis for club communications, and the bulletin board outside the changerooms.  If you have any questions or concerns, please speak to your coach, or send me an email.

Have a great holiday season,

Colleen Morrison
